Mary Ellen Slayter
Founder, CEO and content strategist
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Mary Ellen Slayter
Mary Ellen leads new business development and strategy at Rep Cap. Before launching the agency 10 years ago, she served as director of content development at SmartBrief, as a columnist and financial editor at The Washington Post, and as a late-night server at Louie’s Cafe, where she learned the fine art of getting drunk LSU frat boys to pay their bill. She has a B.S. in agronomy from Louisiana State University, and an M.J. in journalism from the University of Maryland. She still can’t resist asking strangers about their first job.
Steve Smith
Managing Director, Growth
St Louis, Missouri
Steve Smith
Steve runs strategic consulting and business development at Rep Cap, where he helps companies figure out what to say, how to say it, and how to make people actually care. He also writes Work Tech Weekly, a newsletter on the future of work that isn’t shy about calling BS when the hype train gets too rumbly. As a consultant, he’s shaped market narratives for everyone from scrappy startups to global strategics. Before that, he chased deadlines in newsrooms, wrangled Fortune 500 execs as a comms consultant, and learned the hard way what “move fast” really means in startup land. These days, his sweet spot is helping brands craft growth stories and thought leadership that sound human, stand out, and actually say something worth listening to.
Lance Haun
Practice Lead, Insights
Vancouver, Washington
Lance Haun
Lance leads content strategy and development at Rep Cap. He has spent the past two decades focused on the evolving world of work as a practitioner, industry journalist, researcher, and marketing strategist. He's been lucky enough to speak at major conferences and podcasts, but he prefers his work behind the keyboard on major reports or for publications like Harvard Business Review, Reworked, and the dozens of others he's ghostwritten for on behalf of some amazingly smart folks.
A proud Washington State University alum, Lance is based in the Pacific Northwest with his wife and daughter, where he can usually be found on a hiking trail, at a concert, or cheering on his favorite sports teams.
Tony Spangler
Practice Lead, Analyst and Media Relations
Fort Worth, Texas
Tony Spangler
Bringing three decades of communications experience, Tony Spangler, APR, leads the public relations and analyst relations practice. A former award-winning journalist turned PR pro turned marketing content and thought leadership guru, Tony was an Ottaway Fellowship recipient at the University of Missouri’s National Institute for Computer-assisted Reporting and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in the category of community journalism. Tony is an avid bowhunter, bleeds Michigan State green, and is writing a book about why he's training AI to steal his job.
Alec Cherrin
Practice Lead, Marketing Operations
Ferndale, Michigan
Alec Cherrin
Alec leads Marketing Operations at Rep Cap. Before joining the agency, he served as director of operations for a serial entrepreneur and influencer as well as a venture fund, where he built systems and automations to help scale businesses, content, and communities. Years ago, he studied philosophy and entrepreneurship at Michigan State University, a combination that fuels both his big-picture thinking and his obsession with making processes actually work. When he’s not designing smoother workflows, he’s either traveling or producing electronic music, where iteration and rhythm keep him in tune.
Jane Mitchell
Director of Design and Development
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Jane Mitchell
Jane leads design and development at Rep Cap. Prior to learning JavaScript and Gestalt principles of design, she worked in public accounting, finance and mental health. She loves discovering new ways to solve problems, but if she’s not building websites, she’s likely working on expanding LGBTQ+ equality. She has a B.A. in psychology from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a B.S. in accounting from Louisiana State University. She lives in south Louisiana, has 2 children and 2 blind cats, and teaches Sunday school nearly every weekend.
Michael Thibodeaux
Multimedia Producer
Brooklyn, New York
Michael Thibodeaux
Michael Thibodeaux serves as a multimedia producer at Rep Cap, specializing in podcasting, scriptwriting, A/V coaching and other bits of audio content. You can also find him behind the scenes during virtual events. He has a master’s in cognitive psychology from Queens College in New York and is still trying to come up with a good explanation for how this relates to his current career track, but he is sure that it’s probably useful. He’s passionate about all things related to audio and has amassed an impressive collection of keyboards and synthesizers over the years.
Savannah Rabinowitz
Project Manager
Brooklyn, New York
Savannah Rabinowitz
As a Project Manager at Rep Cap, bringing order to chaos is her happy place. She thrives on the kinds of tasks most people avoid- the tedious, the tangled, the “someone really needs to clean this up” moments. Savannah earned her B.S. in Marketing from East Carolina University. From there she built a career that spans account management, client relations, and executive support for C‑suite leaders- a mix that taught her how different industries operate, what they share, and how to adapt quickly. A skillset she now uses to keep projects moving, teams aligned, and clients feeling taken care of. Outside of work, she’s a passionate wildlife advocate and a cat foster. If she’s not bottle‑feeding kittens, she’s probably in the woods, happily hunting for wild mushrooms or wandering a bookstore, adding yet another title to her ever‑growing “I swear I’ll read this someday” stack.
